Song of the Day for 08/12/09

Panic! New PerspectiveArtist: Panic! at the Disco

Song: New Perspective

Album: New Perspective (Single)

Label: Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen

Sounds like: early Brand New, Fall Out Boy

From its straightforward pop melody to the Judy Garland-esque vocals, “New Perspective” proves that Panic! at the Disco can survive after replacing two of its original members (guitarist Ryan Ross and bassist John Walker).

The song’s title clearly states that it’s about moving forward with the new version of Panic! and the song does so without sounding bitter. Instead the song is optimistic of what may come for the band.

“New Perspective” may be a shock to some of the bands newer fans, since it doesn’t display the overly-dramatic “indie” sound the band featured on its first two studio albums. Vocalist Brendon Urie and drummer Spencer Smith instead took a page from the bands early days of covering Blink-182 songs.

But this is a good thing. Panic! sounds great when it’s not trying to do too much with a simple song.

Panic! at the Disco will hit the road this summer with Blink-182 and Fall Out Boy before heading back into the studio to finish its upcoming album.
