Song of the Day for 08/17/09

Cheap TrickArtist: Cheap Trick

Song: Sick Man of Europe

Album: The Latest

Label: None

Sounds Like: The Hives, The Vines

Aggressive, fast and in your face, “Sick Man of Europe” has brought legendary rock group Cheap Trick back to the forefront of the music scene.

On first listen, you may think you’re listening to the newest Green Day or The Hives release, but a few bars into the verse, there’s no doubt it’s Cheap Trick behind the boards.

“Sick Man” features singer Robin Zander belting out lyrics over madman guitarist Rick Neilson’s three-chord gem. The tight rhythm backbone of Tom Petersson on bass and Bun E. Carlos on drums lead the direction on the track, which comes in at just over two minutes.

The song’s title is a shout out to one of the band’s early names before it became Cheap Trick about 35 years ago. But even tough each of Cheap Trick’s members have all surpassed 50 years of age, “Sick Man of Europe” proves that the band still has what it takes to make impressive rock today.

You can hear “Sick Man of Europe” on Cheap Trick’s newest release The Latest, or by visiting the band’s web page at www.cheaptrick.com.
