Artist: Life of Agony
Song: Words and Music
Album: River Runs Red
Label: Roadrunner
Sounds Like: Type O Negative, Madball
Dark and heavy, yet extremely melodic, Life of Agony’s “Words and Music” sounds like everything today’s Nu-Metal bands wished they sounded like.
Layered screams and deathly lyrics help present singer Keith Caputo’s vocals, which perfectly match the band’s dropped D tuning. Add in some of the heaviest breakdowns you’ve ever heard and you have one hell of a song.
“Words and Music” is set amidst a number of great tracks on 1993’s River Runs Red album, which incidentally inspired a lot of today’s rock, metal and rap/rock bands.
Unfortunately, the Brooklyn band never could recreate the greatness that was heard on River, and has gone through a number of band member changes since its release. There’s no doubt though, that the album has made a tremendous mark on a number of music genres.
