Taking advantage of the ’80s music revival, Def Leppard, Poison and Cheap Trick are on the road in what is one of the summer’s biggest rock tours.

After 32-years of existence and over 100 million records sold, Def Leppard is back on tour in support of its latest release, Songs from the Sparkle Lounge. The tour began June 23 and will hit 40 North American cities before it finishes.

Houston fans can see the concert August 19 at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands.

“I’m very pleased that we are coming back to North America,” Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott, said in a release. “We’re going to be touring with some new friends and some old friends and can guarantee it will be the rock tour of the summer.”

Def Leppard’s success peaked in the mid-1980s due to the releases of the Pyromania (1893) and Hysteria (1987) albums – which have sold more than 10 million copies a piece. Songs such as “Pour Some Sugar On Me,” “Photograph” and “Animal” helped propel the success of these two albums.

Joining Def Leppard on tour are Poison and Cheap Trick, who have quite a success record of their own.

Poison took the hair-band scene by storm in the late ’80s with its exciting live shows and eccentric band members. Songs like “Talk Dirty to Me,” “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn” and “Nothin’ But A Good Time” gave the band frequent radio airplay and made them one of the most popular bands of the era.

Frontman Bret Michaels has recently taken on an image of his own, becoming the poster boy for reality television romances. His VH1 program Rock of Love with Bret Michaels is now in its third season, and poor Michaels has yet to find his “true love.”

Cheap Trick, the oldest of the three bands, has been a mainstay in rock ‘n’ roll since the mid-1970s. Songs such as “I Want You To Want Me,” “Surrender” and “The Flame” have kept the band successful over the years. Cheap Trick released its newest album The Latest earlier this year.
